Goop is selling a vagina-scented candle (and it’s actually sold out)

Would you like to smell like a vagina? How about your home? It might not sound like a particularly appealing prospect, but Goop’s new vagina-scented candle – named ‘This Smells Like My Vagina’ – has already sold out, despite the $75 price tag.

Goop is no stranger to vagina-themed stunts. They controversially sold yoni eggs made from jade, designed for insertion into the vagina for pelvic-floor strengthening, despite mass uproar from gynaecologists and a law suit for false health claims and unsubstantiated marketing spiel for which the brand had to pay a six-figure fine.

Luckily, however, it seems the new candle has very little to do with vaginas and contrary to its name, smells nothing like one (unless the vagina in question has been douched with pot pourri). According to the website, the candle has notes of “geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed”, which help to create an atmosphere of “fantasy, seduction, and a sophisticated warmth”. It was created with the help of perfumer Douglas Little, who co-creates all of the Goop fragrances alongside founder Gwyneth Paltrow. “We sit on the floor and geek out on fragrance,” says GP. “It’s an amazing process—he’s just so talented.”

Reaction on Twitter was unsurprisingly cynical, with many poking fun at the wellness brand while others were calling them out on homogenising all vaginas’ smells.

Despite the outcry, the candle has sold out already, but you can keep an eye on stock here.
