The award-winning stars of Fleabag and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel were front and center at the San Vincente Bungalows in West Hollywood Saturday night, where Vanity Fair’s editor-in-chief Radhika Jones alongside Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke hosted a party, presented by Audi, to celebrate this year’s Golden Globe nominees. The streamer has earned a total of eight nominations ahead of Sunday night’s awards.
Fleabag creator, writer, and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge arrived at the private membership club early with her costars Andrew Scott (“The Priest”) and Brett Gelman, who plays her toxic brother-in-law. Waller-Bridge, nominated for best actress in a television in a comedy series, made a beeline to the pool house where she received multiple greetings and well wishes from guests, including Salke. Jon Hamm approached Waller-Bridge with a tap on her shoulder and the two shared a hug. They chatted at length and ended their conversation with another hug.
Despite suffering from jet lag and allergies, Scott was in a celebratory mood. Sunday marks his first trip to the Golden Globes and he said he is ”very excited” to be invited to the ceremony as a nominee. The Irish actor is nominated for the best supporting actor in television series award for his role as a sweet, bumbling Catholic priest who enters into a unholy relationship with Waller-Bridge’s character.
”I’m not superstitious at all. My big plan for the show tomorrow is just to enjoy myself whether if I win or lose,” Scott said while grabbing a drink from the cabana bar. ”Sometimes these things can be quite overwhelming, so I’m just gonna make sure I have a really good time. That’s genuinely my plan. I hope that my allergies don’t flare up like they did today. I look like something out of Aliens!”
Scott’s portrayal as the Priest—or, as the Internet would have it, “Hot Priest”—has won over both critics and audiences. ”My life really hasn’t changed an awful lot,” Scott said of the show’s success. “Just a little level of recognition and a little extra time getting my coffee now. I still really go about my day in many of the same ways before. That’s the challenge, to keep it real and to think about my job. I’m having a great old time particularly here in L.A. We can’t believe our little show is being well received. And to be invited to parties like this one tonight, that’s the biggest change in my life. I usually don’t get invited to the parties.”
Scott’s fellow best supporting actor nominee, Succession Kieran Culkin, mingled at the party while his costar Brian Cox, nominated for best actor in a drama series, was stationed at the cabana bar in deep conversation with Patrick Stewart. By the end of the night, the Succession crew—which also included stars Nicholas Braun and Sarah Snook and composer Nicholas Britell—had joined forces with the Fleabag team to form a celebratory cluster even as the bartenders began packing up.
Elsewhere at the bar, Priyanka Chopra cuddled up to husband Nick Jonas and whispered into his ear, earning a smile. Later, the couple was joined by The Good Place star Jameela Jamil and singer James Blake.
The cast of Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel—Tony Shalhoub, Marin Hinkle, and Kevin Pollak—huddled together near the chic garden pool decorated with candles and shared a lengthy and lively conversation. Soon after, the trio made their way to the party’s portrait studio.
