Of Course Dwayne Johnson And Kevin Hart Are Arguing Over Who Will Retire First

Either Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are truly good friends, or the two must be really sick of each other by now. The pair are about to appear in their fourth film together in three years in Jumanji: The Next Level and it seems a foregone conclusion this won’t be the last time we see the two of them on screen together. Having said that, there has to be a “last movie” for the duo at some point, right?

CinemaBlend’s own Sean O’Connell had the opportunity to sit down with Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson ahead of the release of Jumanji: The Next Level and he asked the pair which of them was likely to retire from acting first. Kevin Hart is pretty sure he knows the answer, The Rock seems a bit less certain. Check out their response in the clip below.

Kevin Hart doesn’t even hesitate in saying he’ll retire before Dwayne Johnson does. He seems quite convinced that’s the way it will go down. Although, it seems Dwayne Johnson is less sure of that. He starts to call Hart the Energizer Bunny at one point, clearly, Johnson thinks Hart has little interest in actually slowing down, and so he’ll be less likely to want to call it quits at any point.

And then the two actually get into it a little bit. It’s all in good fun, but when Kevin Hart says he’d have to sneak his retirement past Dwayne Johnson, the two start arguing in the way that good friends do. It seems that since the pair can be so competitive with each other, there’s a feeling they might actually compete over who gets to retire first.

Although, I feel like the other reason Kevin Hart would have a hard time retiring is that Dwayne Johnson simply wouldn’t let him. Johnson is as big a force today in Hollywood as a producer as he is an actor and so if he wants to keep working with his buddy, all Johnson has to do is keep casting Kevin Hart in his movies and then Hart won’t be able to retire.

In Jumanji: The Next Level, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart’s video game avatar characters are inhabited by a pair of old friends, played by Danny DeVito and Danny Glover, who had a falling out when one of them decided to retire. The pair of young friends get to play a pair of old friends, and you sort of get the impression that’s what Johnson and Hart are going to be like when they get to that age.

Of course, we don’t need to worry about this too much right now. Even Kevin Hart admits that this retirement point is a long way down the road. He’s not looking to call it quits anytime soon, so we can likely be confident we’ll be seeing these two guys show up on screen together for a long time to come.

Whether or not those future movies include a host of Jumanji sequels will likely depend on whether or not Jumanji: The Next Level performs as well as the previous entry did at the box office. We’ll find out after it hits theaters on Friday.
