Hey Keymakers! You have had a big year in 2019 musically! Has there been one particular moment in 2019 musically that you are most proud of?
Definitely the release of our debut EP, ‘Spectra’. This project has been a long time in the making and it feels so good to have seen it through from beginning to end – it was a big step for us as artists. You never really know how difficult something is going to be the first time you do it, and it definitely tested us at times, but we’re proud of the project we created and so happy that people out there finally get to hear it.
What do you enjoy most about getting to do music?
Connecting with our fans! Having people from different parts of the world reach out to us and let us know they appreciate our music or that it moved them in a certain way – that type of impact is the reason we do this and makes all of the work worth it. Also, just the creative aspect of it. It’s truly a special thing to create something new in the world – it’s a release for us and a powerful form of expression – so we feel lucky to be able to do it.
How did you know music was something you were going to pursue together as a duo?
Honestly, it probably took us a little bit to long to figure it out…We were both doing music independently for most of our lives, and it wasn’t until 3 years ago we even worked together on a song for the first time. Once we did, we had a blast. Then we started working harder at it, pushing one another, and developing our sound – that’s when we realized we might have something. That plus seeing the advantage that our natural chemistry could have for us from a creative/workflow perspective, it seemed like a no brainer to ride it as far as we could.

When you have a day off from creating music and touring where would we find you?
Honestly probably just kicking it with our friends. One tough thing about this life is we’re often working when we’d love to be hanging with our people, so when we’re off, it’s normally to get some facetime in. We’re also big into sports so you can often find us kicking at our local sports bar – or maybe even at a show – we’re music fans first and absolutely love live music, so it’s always nice now to be on the other side – simply enjoying.
What is next for the Keymakers?
‘The Spectra Tour’ in 2020! We’re so excited to play this music (and a BUNCH more) live. We’ll be kicking things off in our home city of Pittsburgh on January 7 and then we’ve currently got another 14 shows in the winter/spring, but will likely be adding more. Follow our Songkick to see where we’re playing and come catch us live
