Emma Watson, Yara Shahidi and Kristen Stewart take on the role of Shakespeare’s Juliet for the epic 2020 Pirelli Calendar

The 2020 Pirelli calendar has been revealed, with Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart, Yara Shahidi, Mia Goth, Chris Lee, Claire Foy, Indya Moore, Rosalía Vila Tobella and Stella Rovers taking on the role of Shakespeare’s iconic character ‘Juliet’.

Shot by Paolo Roversi, this calendar – which is entitled ‘Looking for Juliet’ – marks the 47th edition, and the first time it fuses photography with cinema as it launches a short 18-minute film alongside the images.

Starring a series of actresses and singers of different cultures and countries, the new calendar takes its cue from the Shakespearean drama and the intersection of love, strength, youth and beauty embodied by its female protagonist.

Taking place in May earlier this year, the shoot was captured in Verona – a city indelibly tied to the young woman’s fate – and Paris, and the calendar marks the first to be created by an Italian photographer.

The 132-page edition comprises of 58 photographs, in which Roversi interviews candidates for the role of the Romeo’s fated lover.

Speaking of the concept, Roversi admitted: “I was looking for a pure soul, someone full of innocence that combined strength, beauty, tenderness and courage.”

“I found this in the glimmer of an eye, in the gestures and words of Emma and Yara, Indya and Mia and in the smiles and tears of Kristen and Claire…in the voices and chants of Chris and Rosalía. In Stella we have the innocence.”

“There’s a Juliet in every woman. And I will never stop looking for her.”
