Gabrielle Union Breaks Silence Amid ‘America’s Got Talent’ Controversy, Thanks Fans And Takes Breath – Update

UPDATED, Friday PM with new Instagram post: Gabrielle Union was back on social media Friday, a day after she took to Twitter to thank fans for their support following her recent exit as a judge on America’s Got Talent.

Its the latest message from her since NBC on November 22 announced that Union and fellow judge Julianne Hough would not be returning for next summer’s edition.

Union was let go after allegedly complaining of “toxic” workplace culture and speaking out about “problematic,” racially insensitive segments on the show. According to a source close to the show, “There were some issues this past season and for a well-oiled machine like AGT that just wasn’t going to work going into next year.”

The fallout led to Union’s husband Dwyane Wade coming to her defense over NBC’s move.

Now the two seem to be taking a breath after the swirl of the past week. “Lord, you KNOW I’m tryin…whew and breathe,” she posted. “Support is everything.”

PREVIOUSLY, Thursday AM: Ousted America’s Got Talent judge Gabrielle Union took to Twitter on Thanksgiving with a “thank you” message to her fans that included a reference to her recent exit from the hit NBC series.

“So many tears, so much gratitude,” Union wrote. “Just when you feel lost, adrift, alone… you got me up off the ground.”

Her reference to the controversy surrounding the circumstances of her departure from AGT after just one season was far more subtle than the an emotional and no-holds-barred series of social media posts yesterday by her husband, NBA star Dwayne Wade, in which he went after AGT for Union “being fired.”

According to an initial report by website Lovebscott, later expanded upon by Variety, Union was let go after allegedly complaining of “toxic” workplace culture and speaking out about “problematic,” racially insensitive segments on the show.
