Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie mogul awaiting trial on rape allegations, continued his spate of recent public appearances this week, sitting amongst supporters at a Manhattan nightclub, according to reports in Page Six.
The spot was Socialista, an invitation-only Cuban-themed club run by Cipriani with locations in London, Dubai, and Miami as well as New York. It was at the New York outpost on Thursday, the gossip column reported, where Weinstein watched 30-year-old Alexandra Vino perform a PG-13 style floorshow while a jazz combo zipped through Cole Porter’s “Too Darn Hot.” The club has figured into the series of accusations leveled against Weinstein since the New York Times and New Yorker ran exposés about his alleged sexual predation in 2017. (Weinstein has denied all charges of nonconsensual sex.) Reporter Laura Sivan accused Weinstein of forcing her to watch as he masturbated into a potted plant at Socialista’s since-shuttered West Street location. Weinstein has denied this allegation and, in 2017, his representative, Sallie Hofmeister, shared an email from former Socialista co-owner Guiseppe Cipriani that stated “to my knowledge, no incident occurred at the premises on the night in question and nobody complained about, or reported any such alleged incident to me.”
Weinstein will go to trial in Manhattan Supreme Court this coming January to face two charges of rape. He has pleaded not guilty to both and of late Weinstein has been making something of a public comeback. He recently appeared at an Actor’s Hour showcase event to considerable controversy.
A number of performers, including comic Kelly Bachman, stood up and spoke to the elephant in the room.
That was apparently not the case this week. Page Six reports that there were only well-wishers at Socialista. “I love your movies,” one man said to the producer whose final works were Tulip Fever and The Current War, the tabloid said.
