Recently, Nicolas Cage had stated that Suicide Club director Sion Sono‘s upcoming English-language action-horror film Prisoners of the Ghostland might be the wildest movie he’s made to date (“and that’s saying something,” he made sure to note), so we’ve been keeping our eye on this one. Imogen Poots (Green Room) will co-star, and we’ve got more casting news for ya.
Sofia Boutella (The Mummy), Ed Skrein (Deadpool), Bill Moseley (3 from Hell), Young Dais (The Outsider) and Tak Sakaguchi (Re:Born) have joined the film, we learned today.
Principal photography commences this month in Japan with worldwide sales rights to be handled at AFM by XYZ Films, with Michael Mendelsohn’s UPCM/Patriot Pictures financing.
In the film, “When a notorious criminal, Hero (Cage), is sent to rescue an abducted girl (Poots) who has disappeared into a dark supernatural universe, they must break the evil curse that binds them and escape the mysterious revenants that rule the Ghostland.”
Cage recently described Prisoners of the Ghostland, “It’s out there. I wear a skintight black leather jumpsuit with grenades attached to different body parts, and if I don’t rescue the governor’s daughter from this state line where they’re all ghosts and bring her back they’re gonna blow me up.”
Aaron Hendry and Reza Sixo Safai wrote the film, Sono’s English-language debut.
