Throughout 2019, more often than not, Michelle Obama has elected to wear her natural curls instead of the smooth waves we came to love during her tenure as First Lady. And the curls are getting just as much love, if not more, continually causing the best kind of commotion when she wears her tight spirals at high-profile events. The Obama Foundation Summit on Tuesday, October 29, was no exception as Obama not only kept up the curls but also debuted an updated hair colour.
Appearing onstage at the Illinois Institute of Technology alongside other inspirational women like Ava DuVernay and Mavis Staples, Obama wore her natural curls in a shoulder-grazing style that paired perfectly with her dark gray, off-the-shoulder, houndstooth dress. The look was similar to the one she wore at Essence Fest in July, but with one major difference: She no longer has the blonde ombré, having dyed it back to a darker brown.
Although the topics of conversation at the Obama Foundation Summit were of utmost importance, Twitter did as Twitter does and lost its collective mind once again over Obama’s awesome hair. “Michelle Obama with natural hair. That’s it. That’s the tweet,” one person wrote. Another tweeted, “Thank you for everything you do. Btw @MichelleObama, you look amazing with natural hair😍. Keep it up❣️❣️❣️🥰.” Yet another fawned over the ‘do, writing, “Michelle obama’s natural hair gives me LIFE i have been waiting for this era for YEARS.”
Social media responded similarly upon seeing footage of Obama at the aforementioned Essence Fest, as well as when photos of her summer family vacation were posted, and nearly a year ago when she graced the cover of Essence. She looks stunning in every hairstyle, but fans are especially enthusiastic about her incredible curls.
