Over the course of a 17-year professional baseball career, Jim Edmonds succeeded at swinging for the fences on 393 occasions.
That’s how many home runs the former centerfielder hit for five franchises.
These days, however, Edmonds is only taking swings at his estranged wife, Meghan Edmonds, and he’s not even the only member of his family to be doing so.
Jim, of course, has been dominating the headlines over the past few days because he filed for divorce from The Real Housewives of Orange County alum on October 25.
Just as this news went public, so did an ugly rumor:
That Jim, who confessed this summer to at least sexting with another woman during his marriage, had been sleeping with the nanny of his three young kids.
Meghan herself has only posted a couple cryptic times on social media about this alleged incident.
She labeled herself as “so raw” in one selfie and then used an emoji to point to a comment that named the nanny in question at another point.
However, the nanny has actually issued a terse statement, saying simply:
“The allegations are completely false.”
And Jim Edmonds has also defended himself in a staunch manner.
“I did not sleep with our nanny,” he has said in response to this scandal, trashing Meghan for dragging the young caretaker into this marital mess and adding:
“We have been treating and raising this young girl like she is our own child. For someone to accuse me of sleeping with her is not only wrong, it’s disgusting and irresponsible.”
Jim had more to say (below), but we need to take a short break here in order to share what his daughter has shared about the unfortunate distuation.
In a statement to Us Weekly, 22-year odl Hayley Edmonds takes a cue from her father and sets out to destroy her well-known stepmother.
“I’ve been waiting for it. For probably … three years?” Hayley says of the split.
She adds:
“I think it’s impossible to be happy with someone so … I don’t know if I would say narcissistic but, she, like, creates her own problems and loves conflict and things like that.
“The selfishness is miserable for anyone to be around, let alone to be married to her.
“My whole family has grown closer because we have all had to stay silent in hopes to protect my dad and no one can do it anymore.”
Well… okay then!
So much for holding back anything, huh?
The Real Housewives of Orange County viewers may remember watching Hayley and Meghan and their complex relationship on season 10 of the Bravo series.
The then-teenager moved in with Meghan and Jim while her mother, LeAnn Horton, who died in 2015, dealt with a cancer diagnosis.
“The way Meghan treats my dad’s mom is disgusting. And we’ve all just had to sit quietly and I’m just done with it,” Hayley added to Us, alleging that Meghan blocked her grandmother on Instagram.
“It’s a bummer. Because my grandma just wants to see pictures of her grandkids and she had to get them sent to her every day. It just really bummed her out. That really sucks.”
Hayley also says her dad is a “great person.”
In related news, Carly Wilson, the suddenly-famous nanny, has issued a second statement.
Along with a meme that urges people to “Be Kind,” the woman accused of banging her boss’ husband has said the following:
“In the past week, allegations have been made about me, which are not based in fact.
I have not and never would participate in any action involving infidelity. I consider this a private matter in someone else’s marriage and will not comment on it further.
I wish the entire family well. #BeKind.
But it’s far too late for that as far as Jim is concerned.
“Just because you’re extremely whitty and intelligent, and know how to play the Instagram game. Doesn’t give you the right to use that platform to wrongfully accuse,” he said this week of Meghan Edmonds, concluding:
“Not only is it irresponsible. It is dangerous and puts my family in harms way. We all make mistakes. This is not one of those times. My heart is broken for everyone involved.
“If you get anything out of this post. Get the truth.”
