Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively managed to keep the birth of their third child secret for two months. But now that the news is out, Reynolds didn’t keep the world waiting for long to see the first shot of the couple’s new baby. Granted, it wasn’t a completely unobscured photo: Reynolds covered the newborn’s face with a smiley face. But he did subtly share in his tweet the gender of his third child with Lively: They had another girl. Then he got political.

“I love B.C.,” he wrote with a Canadian flag emoji. “I want my daughters to experience the same natural playground I grew up in. On Oct. 21, the candidate you vote for will SHAPE CLIMATE POLICY. So is Reynolds likely to show the baby’s face in another shot someday? Not really. Lively and Reynolds’ two other daughters, Inez and James, were only photographed once with their parents’ consent. They attended Reynolds’ Hollywood Walk of Fame star unveiling, as seen above. The girls haven’t been at any of their parents’ red carpet events since.

Lively spoke to Marie Claire in 2016 about how important her family’s privacy is to her and why it’s important to her to keep her children out of the paparazzi’s lens. “I’d rather not have to deal with it [the paparazzi] at all, but we knew the lifestyle we were getting into, and while it’s hard…it’s another thing when it’s our child. She [James] didn’t have the opportunity to make a decision about what she wants,” Lively said.

She and Reynolds intend to raise their daughters as normally as possible. “We want our kids to have the same normal life that we had,” she said. “We don’t ever want to rob them of what we had, because we’d feel really selfish.”
